So... I really wanted to like this album, really really I did, but I just... it all sounds like filler. Every track sounds exactly the same and none of them really stand out as something I'd hear and go "OHH TURN THAT UP!" I've been listening to it on repeat for a couple days now and I just can't seem to find a track that really pulls me in... at all.
Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Are there any tracks that you particularly like that perhaps I should try listening to apart from the rest of the album?
I'm not trying to knock it. Really, I'm not. I just can't seem to find anything worth putting on a playlist.
I've got tickets for the show in Baltimore and I'm really hoping that perhaps these are just the kind of songs that sound so much better live... but I've generally liked Manson's studio stuff better than his live stuff, so I'm not going to hold my breath there.

Re: New Album Thoughts?
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 6:47 AMI have to agree totally.. Every track does sound the same or has the same vibe too it.... It's almost as if he wrote all the songs at the same time and didn't put anything original into any of the songs...
Concert will be filled with mainly hits anyhow so you probably won't notice the new tracks much anyhow...
Yes very disappointed in this album... -

Re: New Album Thoughts?
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 10:03 AMI agree as well, it is really lacking a sense of feeling behind it, and thats probably because there is no bandm just that producer he made the album with, and that guy did most of the music. He needs to get John 5 and Ginger Fish back in the band, I mean I know he's Marilyn Manson, but thats only half of it, the band is the other half. It sucks because I have been waiting for this and it let me down big time.
But I still love MM, sometimes we have to go through a Holywood, to get to a Golden Age of Grotesque, get me.

Re: New Album Thoughts?
Tue, June 12, 2007 - 7:19 PMYeah but even Holy Wood had some gems.
I agree about needing the band. Manson is a fantastic vocalist and front man, but... he's really not a very good lyricist. I think some of that can be seen in GAotG. There were some pretty cheesy lines in that one. I mean, come on... "hold the S because I am an aint" ? hehe
Reading the lyrics for Eat Me Drink Me, I see a lot of good stuff, and I think much of that can be attributed to collaboration with Tim Skold... but there's just not the musical backing that we've heard before.
Anyone know who the band is for this tour? Having Chris Vrenna on drums last time around was just awesome. -

Re: New Album Thoughts?
Wed, June 13, 2007 - 10:09 AMI was just useing that as an example, for sure, the very worst song on Holywood is still a million times better than any song on the new album. At 1st I did not really like Holywood, but it has grown on me and I now like it alot, although I dont foresee this new album growing on me at all. I also read the lyrics and was not feeling them at all, and I agree, there are some cheesy lines on Golden Age, but it is still the best album he's made in awile, IMHO.
Hope the concert is good though, -

Re: New Album Thoughts?
Thu, June 14, 2007 - 7:34 AMI Too have listened to this album 5 or 6 times the past week, just hoping it will get better.. It hasnt, i still dont like it... I am a huge MM fan, and I REALLY wanted to enjoy the album.. I kept listening and re-listening to songs hoping they would grow on me. I read the entire leaflet, and um, Yeah................. It's just not good. I like each and every one of his other albums (with a few expections on tracks)..
Maybe the divorce from Dita did him in... -

Re: New Album Thoughts?
Thu, June 14, 2007 - 8:26 AMlol maybe the divorce......... uh well yeah maybe lol. God it sounds like he rushed to make this album. I realise he wanted to be more of a singer on this album but this album was so.... (clenches fists) frustrating to me that i'd say there was more singing on the song diary of a dope fiend than this entire album. (I LOVE the part where he does the lounge singer voice LMAO!!) I loved hearing his voice absolutely! His voice is lovely. But the music sucked and the lyrics didn't stab me with any drug induced societal truths that i've come to anticipate from him. It wasn't dirty, it was like cramming Manson into pre fabricated radio friendly bunk. Manson is the first musician that i became a fan of, the first one i went rabid on hearing every word, buying every cd, the first one to make me whip my head up and go "WHAT DID HE JUST SAY?" and have to go research it. I'm not bitching cause I'm ticked he didn't replicate Mechanical Animals or what have you, an artist changes their flavour as they develope and grow and i've loved his stuff untill now, This just doesn't have the same colour and vibrancy that he does. That said i've discovered Rob Zombie, i'm gonna go listen to pussy liquor. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: New Album Thoughts?
Thu, June 14, 2007 - 10:28 AMYeah, I'm digging Rob Zombies stuff too, perhaps his music is sounding really good, um, because John 5 is playing for him.
I have faith though, I bet the next MM album will be awesome.
Waiting patiently :)

Re: New Album Thoughts?
Thu, June 14, 2007 - 1:35 PMpersonally, i liked "heart shaped glasses" from the beginning, because it had a different sound from anything he'd ever done before, and i just love that guitarwork in it.
other than that, the only other track on this album that was really strong for me was "just a car crash away". mainly for personaly reasons and not so much due to any real good work on MM's part... also "evidence" is catchy, and i like that one as well.
it does really sound like this was rushed. his lyrics have been going downhill the last few albums, but this was really a kick in the balls. it's been said he wrote this album to seduce evan rachel wood... well, marilyn, how about you write an album to seduce all your fans back? :/
that said, i still love him and i always will. and i know i'll go and turn into a rabid teenage girl at the show like i always do and i'll talk about it for days. i'm just disappointed i guess.
